Legal Case Manager

Job Description

UPS Legal is seeking an experienced Project Manager to plan and execute eDiscovery support initiatives. He/She manages the project budget to mitigate potential risks and minimize costs. He/She manages large scale projects, provides project management expertise and supports the Legal function, develops project teams and individuals, and promotes the value of structured project management. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Builds/creates and manages project lifecycles, including project scope, resources, schedules, initiations, and deployment to see projects from beginning-to-end
  • Compares cost/benefit analysis and coordinates with stakeholders to obtain agreement on project scope, cost, and needed resources
  • Acts as a liaison with business partners to design and execute processes for identifying, preserving, collecting, processing, reviewing, and producing documents needed for legal matters
  • Builds/creates/designs and executes efficient and effective eDiscovery protocols and processes; assists with preparation for custodian interviews; oversees matter budgets and administration of flat fee arrangements
  • Builds/creates and develops project plans (i.e., detailed plan, milestones, and work breakdown structures) and ensures that the project will be completed on time, according to specifications, and in accordance with the established budget
  • Determines project implementation scenarios to reduce cost impacts and rationalize project objectives
  • Builds/creates and develops risk assessment and mitigation plans and schedules to document contingency actions for managing potential project risks
  • Develops and provides training for eDiscovery and litigation hold systems and processes
  • Oversees, coordinates, and manages the legal holds process and hold management system
  • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Performance Management, Career Development, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day-to-day administration of processes and formal procedures
  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, conferences, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development
  • Ensures direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop them personally and professionally

Knowledge and Skills

  • Develops budgets; tracks expenditures against financial targets; describes impact of area’s budget on organizational financial plan
  • Applies knowledge of creative facilitation techniques to encourage participation; encourages open communication and achieves consensus when necessary; keeps participants engaged and on topic; identifies team conflicts and is able to provide feedback
  • Develops and executes project management plans (including scope, timing, value, and risks) for basic projects of short duration requiring limited coordination and resources; supports initiatives with well-defined project needs and cross-functional roles/responsibilities throughout the project life cycle; manages minimal organizational resistance to cross-functional project demands; employs project management tools and technology (e.g., Microsoft Project, Program Management Group website, etc.) appropriately
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information; identifies appropriate sources of information
  • Demonstrates the ability to meet strict deadlines, think critically, and be solution oriented
  • Effectively communicates cross-functionally and with senior managers
